Tonight my mother accidentally fed the younger dogs the Milkbone dog biscuits for older dogs. She was freaked out about it. Only in America! How many people in North Korea, Africa etc would love to have this type of stress? People in those countries would love to eat the bones themselves for crying out loud!
If you think about it, all innovation comes from a mindset of abundance. Walk up and down the aisles of Walmart, Target, Sporting Goods stores, electronic stores etc and you will see THOUSANDS of items designed based on the assumption there would be a consumer with money to buy them. For every product on the shelves you know there had to be someone with a scarcity mentality doubting the product’s success from the very beginning. Has anything great ever come from the scarcity mentality? What has the guy running around talking about how bad everything is ever created?
Now there is nothing wrong with intelligent, rational analysis as far as whether a product will survive. That’s not what I’m talking about here. I’m talking about the perpetual “No one will ever buy that” or “No one has the money for that mentality.”
I think we all have to be very careful not to let this mentality affect us during this recession. The focus must be on VALUE. If we become students of VALUE, we will make money no matter what. Why? Because if we come from a place of providing value our profits will pale in comparison to the satisfaction received by others. We are consistently producing more than we take. I look at it more as alchemy than business.
